Welcome to the Clinical Vision Science Program
We are located in the IWK Health Centre, Halifax, NS, Canada. The School of Orthoptics and Ophthalmic Medical Technology was established at the IWK Health Centre in 1984. It has long been internationally respected for the calibre of its orthoptic education program. It is the largest orthoptic education centre in Canada and the only one to offer graduates the opportunity to gain certification in orthoptics and ophthalmic medical technology. In partnership with the School of Orthoptics and Ophthalmic Technology at the IWK Health Centre, Dalhousie University now offers a Master of Clinical Vision Science (MSc CVS) with Concurrent Graduate Diploma in Orthoptics and Ophthalmic Medical Technology.
Master of Clinical Vision Science at Dalhousie University
The MSc Clinical Vision Science Program provides students interested in the profession of orthoptics with a strong foundation in vision sciences (including neuroscience and neuropharmacology) and in research techniques.
The Program encourages an integrated approach to the field of vision sciences and to expanding knowledge of research that underpins much clinical practice. The Program will equip students with outstanding skills in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of ocular disorders to ensure strong clinical competence and will enable them to be full participants in the interdisciplinary model of eye-care. Students will be exposed to a variety of clinical experiences to prepare them for the independent nature of professional practice. Graduates will also have the ability to analyse and relate research findings to clinical experience, skills vital for superior diagnostic and therapeutic services, and will therefore be well prepared for both clinical and research-based practices.
